in this paper, an ellipsometry technique for measuring poled polymer electrooptic coefficients is studied. Based on a simplified model a formula of γ33 is presented. The limits of this method are discussed.

    Optical nonliearity of the liquid suspension of dielectric spheres has been studied with a single beam technique. Nonlinear refractive index n2 of polystyrene latex suspension with 0.059 μm-dimeter and concentration of 2.5% has been measured to be 4.3 ×10-9 cm2/W. The contribution of thermal effect has been proved experimentally to be negligible as compared with that of electrostrictive effect.

    By direct wave clipping with an electro-optical Q-switchins, we have obtained 2~10 ns short output pulses from a normal UV-preionized XeCl excimer laser. This paper reports on our experimental work and a discussion about the experimental resultS. The experimental scheme and the stability of output pulses are also presented.

    A three-beam laser scattering method combining Fraunhofer diffraction with laser Doppler effect is proposed. The problem of the signal cross-talk when measuring size and velvcity of particles bigger then 5 μm simultaneously has also been analyzed and solved.Experimental results obtained have confirmed the analysis.

    A research for the classification and identification of chiners characters scripts using the optical Joint Transformation Correlation(JTC) and CCD data sampling system was introduced in this peper. The range of the correlation peaks intensity value was obtained experimentally. The experiment indicates that the method is practical and can be applied in many fields.

    An image processing method for the range image acquired by a laser 3-D vision sensor is described. By this method, roads and obetacles can be detected automatically. The processing results of a series of real range images show that the method works effechvely.

    A new design for a birefringent filter is described, which is suitable for Ti:sapphire farers and other tunable broadband solid-stste lasers. The formulas to optimize the angle between the optic axis and the BF surface are given. A new BF designed according to this theory has been used in laboratory and its tuning characteristics are confirmed by the experimental measurement.

    Based on the asymmetric controlling property and the mode selecting property of BDN dye, a single longitudinal mode ring Nd:YAG laser is operating. The output is stable and the probsbility of mode selecting is over 90%.

    We derived a set of analytic rat6 coefficients formulas for dielectronic recombination of He- like ions. By these formulas the dielectronic recombination rate coefficientS may be calculated accurately and rapidly without the necessities of doing full ab initio calculations. As an example, we have calculated the rate coefficients of He-like Si ion, and compared with the explicit calculations made by Karim et al., yielding an excellent agreement.

    A high power, high frequency air ultrasonic transducer used to generste air ultrasonic Phase grating is fabricated. The laser ultrasonic acousto-optic deflection has been observed clearly by using a displacement-sensitive detector and a particularly ptepated acoustic coupler setting at a proper place in front of the acoustic radiating surface of the transducer to increase the interference of acoustic field and to decrease the divergence angle of acoustic radiation. It can be applied to measure the parameters of the air vortex flow field in wind tunnel test.

    A high power pulsed laser diode is used to pump a 1 km GI multimode optical fiber in which the ratio of core to cladding is 50/125 μm. Meanwhile, the OTDR (Optical Time Domain Refiectometry) technique and high speed sample average technique are adopted to measure and analyse spectra from backseattering fibers. The study of the temperature character of anti-stokes SCattering, the intensity of which is only 10-8~10-9 of the incident light, and its aPPlication in the distributed optical fiber temperature sensors are emphasized.

    in this poper, impregnation and diffusion processes of C60 in POrous silica glass are reported. with a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, the optical limiting effect of the materialhas been measured and described. The damage threshold of the glass containing C60can be up to 9 J/cm2. 10 ns.

    According to the analysis of the particular photorefractive effects oberved in photoferroelectrics illuminated uniformly and the study of photoferroelectricity, it is found that the photorefractive mechanism had on the diffusion theory is questionable and can not explain the experiments. We rebuild a new theoretical model had on the AP effect for homogeneously illuminated photoferroelectrics and give the experiments a successful explanation.

    This poper reports that glasses of high refractive index and high ultra-violet transmission are produced. The composition of the glasses and the relation between their refractive index and ultra- violet transmission are studied. Experimental results obtained show that the refractive indexes of the glasses are larger than 1. 70 and the ultra-violet transmisivities are larger than 80%.
