The features of Fresnel diffraction are studied of the serrated aperture in this paper. We have proposed and demonstrated that using a serrated circular aperture and a spatial filter could effectively improve the light beam uniformity and suppress the intensity ripples for a large Fresnel numbers.

A novel optical microspot system is presented in this paper, which can be used in computer-generated coding holography. It has the advantages of compact structure, good reliability, high resolution, and small spot diameter (<0.1 mm), etc. So it can possibly build a new kind of holographic grating printer with laser, computer and planar drive, as well as a servo system.

A fundamental parameter XRF method for the determination of thickness and composition of a magneto-optic disk was studied. The measured Al Kαlins was used to calculate Al layer, while both Si3N4 layers were measured by total Si Kα itensities to discriminate each Si3N4 layer. A fundamental parameter method was used for calculations of magneto-optic layers by Fe Kα, Co Kα and Tb Lα Lines. Equations can be evaluated readily by a computer. The result is in good agreement with the standard sample.

A new one step method to implement a volume holographic array illuminator with low abberations using a phototorfractive crystal is reported for the first time. According to the recording and reconstructing wavelengths, we calculated the optimal recording anglesand reconstructing angles for the compensation of abberations which are due to thedifference of the wavelengths.

A new positioning technology employing a diode laser is proposed in this paper. With the wide spectrum of a multi- mode diode laser, the intensity distribution of its interference fringes can be used to find the zero OPD point. The interferometer is small and available, the signal processing is simple, and the zero OPD point can be searched in a large range.

The effects of high power density laser shock processing on mechanical properties of Ly12CZ aluminum alloy have been studied. The results show that fatigue life of Ly12CZ after laser shock processing can be improved. The improvement of fatigue life is due to the increment of dislocation density in microstructure, resulting in abvious increases of strength and hardness.

The signal gain characteristics of hybrid pumped erbium doped fiber amplifiers (HEDFA) are studied theoretically. The behaviors near gain threshold and saturation regionare analyzed in detail. It shows that HEDFA has higher gain and lower threshold than the usual EDFA which is pumped by one laser source. The conclusion is supported by our experimental results.

In a magnetically confined DC glow discharge excited transverse flow high power CO2 laser, a seven-fold resonator operated successfully and provided a I kW TEM00 mode laser output. In this paper, the structure and characteristic parameters of this resonator arepresented and discussed along with the experimental results.

In this peper, the properties of a Cu-Ne-HBr laser have been studied by varyingoperation parameters, such as gas pressure, pulse repetition rate, and input electricalPOwer. The Parametric relation has been measured and the role of HBr gas in the Cu Ne-HBr laser is analysed briefly. Experimental results show that at lower discharge voltage (<2 kV) and mixed gas pressure ratio of about 15:1 (Ne:HBr) the optimum pulse repetitionrate is 20 kHz and the optimum pressure is 2.66 kpa, respectively.

It is reported that a novel small-period wiggler was developed. The experiments of a Raman free electron laser at 3 mm wavelength are presented. Using the bifilar helieal wiggler with 1 cm period, the wavelength of the free electron laser has been reduced from 8 mm to 3 mm with the same beam energy. The radiation power is 1 MW and the efficiency is 0.66 %.

By use of the principle of multiple interactions between electrons and waves in the FEL, the expression of gain under the high signal condition is obtained. Result shows that high signal gain formula can satisfyingly explain the saturation of laser output in the experiment.

Parameter calculations of a cylindrical plasma column sustained by a surfatronare presented. From the calculations the absolute values and radial profiles of electrondensity and electron temperature are gained with the giving gas pressure, wave frequencyand microwave power absorbed. An analysis shows that the surfatron can efficiently be usedto the CO2laser of mircowave excitation.

This paper reports that the barium sodium niobate (BNN) optical-waveguide film with orientation [110] has been epitaxially grown on the (100) plane of substrate KTiOPO4(KTP) by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The measurements of XRD, SEM and XPS show that the as- grown BNN film is epitaxial single crystal with smooth surface. The measurements of optical-waveguide mode and propagation loss indicate that the film is of good optical waveguide properties with low loss.

The fabrication and test of multilayer mirrors for soft X-ray lasers are reported. The substrates, coating machine, film thickness controlling methods, and conditions in deposition process are described. The periodic structure of the multilayers is evaluated by Xray diffraction, and using a reflectometer with a laser produced plasma source the reflectance of the multilayers is tested. These multilayer mirrors have been employed in double passing experiments of soft X-ray lasers.
