In this paper, the principle and theoretical treatment of pulsed photothermal deflection (PPTD) measurement of the optical absorption coefficients of optically dense samples were presented. The optical absorption coefficients of KMnO4 solutions of different concentrations at 532 nm wavelength were determined experimentally and were directly compared with the values obtained by transmission spectroscopic method.The data were in good agreement. The optical absorption coefficient of a 632.8 nm wavelength filter was also determined.

    Through analysis of the coefficient matrix formula in the laser particle sizer, a simple relational expression between coefficient matrixs, which relate to the focus of the Fourier lens, is derived, so that an arbitrary matrix can be derived from another one. By using this relational expression the number of the coefficient matrix can be obviously reduced. The expression is verified through the numerical caculations and experimental measurements for the standard latex spheres.

    In this paper,experiments of laser-induced damage of infrared filters by quasi-convence wave Nd:YAG laser were presented. Damage threshold was determented in the light of thermal performance of thin film. Damage mechanism was preliminarily put forward by studying the damage process of the infrared filters induced by lasers.

    On the basis of a brief description of the measurement principle of a 3.39 μn dual wavelength beat wave interferometer, a new method of aiming and positioning the measuring points of a large dimension workpiece diameter is put forward. The high precise absolute measurement of a large diameter without a guide is realized by using a 3.39 μm dual wavelength beat wave interferometer. The results of aiming and positioning experiment are given. The measurement error of the system is analysed. The error analysis indicates that the uncertainty (3σ) in measuring a diameter of 10 meters is less than 0.03 mm.

    We realized a SSFLC cell with excellent bistubility using an improved conventional rubbing method. We also measured the electrooptic characteristic of the SSFLC cell. The contrast was large than 140 and a response time of 100 microseconds was reached.

    A new three-dimensional finite difference beam propagstion method (3D-FDBPM) is proposed.We use the finite difference technique and the Alternating Direction Implicit Method(ADI)to deal with the scalar paraxisl wave equation and establish the 3D-FDBPM. This method is very robust and can be used for various Photonic devices with complex index profile and allows large propagation steps along the propagation direction of the waveguide structure with uniform waveguides. This method is used to analyze the electrooptically induced waveguide configuration and single-mode fiber.

    We demonstrate 220 kV 2500 A intelligent Magneto-optic current transformer. The instability is less than±0.5% over the temperature range ─30~+40 ℃ and the linearity error is ±0.5% at room temperature within a primary current range 1000~8000 A.

    Just the right amount polyvinyl alcohol and some additives were introduced into the gelatin ammonium dichromate system.The results of experiments and inspections Showed that many-sided influences emerged in the holographic performance properties of dichromated gelatin when the polyvinyl alcohol was incorporated. The bias hardness of the film was raised. Its holograms' micrestructure was varied, surface relief was deepened and environmental Stability was improved, etc. On the other hand, the excellent holographic characteristics of the conventional dichromated gelatin were kept. Therefore, it can be advantageously used for holograms and holographic optical elements. Its principal principle is discussed and the results of the experiments and inspections are presented.

    φ00 mm large aperture KDP crystal high power frequency doubling laser system for LF12 TW facility has been developed firstly. In the experiment of using doubling laser beam to target,the external frequency doubling conversion efficieny was kept over 60% when incident laser intensity was higher than 1.5 GW/cm2. Its highest efficiency of up to 65.6% was obtained. The largest output energy is 223.4 J (0.527 μm) with the largest input energy 357.8 J (1.054 μm).

    The time characteristics of a pulsed Ti:sapphire laser have been studied theoretically based on the rate equation of four-level system. Pumped by frequency double Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, the output delay and pulse duration of a tunable laser vary with its input energy, the index of reflection of its output mirror and the wavelength. The experimental and theoretical results coincide with each other.

    The pulses with energy of 3.5 mJ,repeatition rate of 1~100 Hz and energy fluctuation less than 1% have been obtained of a slab Nd:YAG laser pumped by a quasi-CW 60 W laser diode array. The optical to optical efficiency is 15% and slop efficiency is 29%. The Q-switchings of the DPL involving A-O, E-O, and color center crystals and dye have been realized respectively. The maximum peak output power of the laser is 100 kW.

    This paper reports the experimental studied results of an integral XeCl excimer laser device with self-amplification. The theoretical analysis about the device conditions required for the self-amplification operation is given, and the results show that this kind of device can be used widely to any high-gain laser device for obtaining high power/energy narrow-linewidth and high quality laser output.

    Nd:FAP crystal was pumped by a SDL-2480-H1 laser diode with pulse power of 1313 mW and pulse width of 400 μs at a repetition rate of 50 Hz. The threshold power was found to be 117 mW, and the output/input characteristics were demonstrated.

    In this paper a physical model for CPM-MQW-LD mode-locking process is presented. In the model, the saturable absorbing effect of the absorber and the effect of the transient grating are considered. In addition, the transient gratings occuring at the both facets of the LD and in the gain region near the absorber are also analyzed. As an example, the MQW-LD mode-locking process and the effect of transient grating on laser pulses FHPW and on the peak power are studied.

    The absorption spectra and excitation spectra at room temperature, the laser-induced fluorescence spectra and the fluorescence lifetime both at room temperature and liquid-nitrogen temperature of a Cr:KTP crystal are measured experimentally. On the basis of the results the ligand parameters, absorption cross-setion, emission cross-setion and quantum efficiency (QE) of the active chromium ions are calculated. It is found that the chromium ions are in the weak ligand, but show strong electron-phonon coupling. The lower QE at room temperature is assigned to a strong nonradiative relaxtion. No spectral character of the chromium ions of tetrahedron is observed.

    The nonlinear optic properties are studied of two novel ferroelectric liquid crystals, including the molecular tilt angle t, dispersion refractive index, birefringence, biaxial refractive index, and a number of independent dij coefficients.The temperature and the electronic field dependence of the nonlinear optic properties are analyzed.
