The electrical field inside the stripline travelling wave Pockels cell and its electro-optic effect is disscussed under the quasi-static approximation. Because of non-uniformity of electrical field, the half wave voltage of the stripline LiTaO3 travelling wave Pockels cell will be larger than that of the ideal Pockels cell.

    A signal processing system for single-mode optical fiber phase- modutaled sensors is reported. The principle of operation is outlined, the direction-distinguishing circuit is discussed and the signal processing with a computer is described.

    The proton-exchanged MgO:LiNbO3 waveguides and its characteristics were described. The condition for Cerenkov second harmonic generation (CSHG) was analyzed. The CSHG was also demonstrated experimentally and the conversion efficiency of about 1% was obtained.

    Possibility to dope Y2O3 particle on the surface of superalloy sample and the relationship between homogeneity and irradiation parameters of laser have been investigated by means of laser irradiation. The reaults show that when the precoating powder quantity is 0.035 g/cm2 and 0.05 g/cm2, if the laser power density is selected as 1.76×104 W/cm2 and scanning speed as 0.36 m/min, homogeneous distribution of Y2O3 particle in melt-doped region can be got on macroscale, the average content of yttrium oxide in the region is 1.2~2.0 wt%.

    Based on the interference of two orthogonal linear polarizations of HE11 mode in strongly birefringent single-mode fibers, we utilize delay time techniques, which not only reduce the instrument error, but also lower its cost in comparison with other fiber optical temperature sensors of the same kind.

    Optical ZrO2 films produced with dual ion beam technology are reported for the first time. The dependence of deposition process on oxygen-to-zirconium composition ratio and the corresponding refractive index of the film are given in this paper, and the optimum conditions for the depositon process are suggested on the basis of the analyses of RBS, XPS, XRD and TEM.

    A polymer dielectric microsphere will "suffer" radiation pressure in the electric field of laser beam. In this paper, geometry optical method is used to describe this three dimensional force field. Due to the special properties of this force field, it gives us a novel tool to trap and manipulate microspheres, such as biological cells.

    A new spatial encoding method is presented to implement optical fuzzy logic gates by using shadow-casting. Seven kinds of fundamental fuzzy logic operations in parallel can be all optically realized with the proposed system in this paper. The experimental results are also given.

    Several reconstruction methods of the Franhofer hologram in theory has been analyzed. It shows that the Fraunhofer hologram is not equal to the Fourier hologram, and the difference between the two image planes is given. The theory is in good agrement with the experiment. Some conclusions different from some papers are presented.

    It is reported that the longitudinal mode spacing can be tunable within the range of 660 MHz by adjusting the structure parameters of the three-mirror compound resonator through the use of mode quenching effect in a small-scale CuBr laser. We have clearly observed a limit of self-mode locking experimentally. It is the first time to obtain the operation of single longitudinal mode in a CuBr laser with a compound resonator.

    CW self-frequency-doubled operation of Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 laser has been achieved in a nearly concentric cavity pumped by coherent radiation. The maximum output of second harmonic power as high as 12.2 mW and the conversion efficiency up to 23.5% per watt were obtained.

    Acousto-optic modulation of CO2 laser amplifier by using Bragg diffraction is described. The output power of modulated 10.6 μm laser is 115 W. The maximal modulation frequency is 200 kHz. Its amplifying index decreases with the increasing of the input laser power.

    1.36 μm Nd:doped silica fiber laser pumped by Ti:sapphire laser at about 800 nm was reported. The Maximum output achieved is 0.58 mW and the slope efficiency is 1.3%.

    Experimental results on all domestic-made erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) pumped by 1.47 μm laser diode are reported in this paper. Using mode-field matching technique, the fusion loss between standard single-mode fiber (MFD=9.125 μm) and erbium-doped fiber (MFD=3.88 μm) decreased to 0.2 dB. Gain characteristics of EDFAs are investigated and small-signal gain of 24 dB has been obtained.

    The fluorescence spectra pumped by 567.584, 571.579, 576.020, 576.429, 589.563 and 597.126 nm laser lines in hollow cathode discharge lamp (HCD) was measured. About 74 fluorescence lines in the range of 371-684 nm were detected. The corresponding level and intensity for every fluorescence line was listed. It is proved that there are very stronge collision in Tm HCD.

    Using an optical fiber-coupled semiconductor laser diode OBD with output feedback pumping, operations in 3 modes (differential gain, bistability, and zero-bias), have been realized respectively, and optical signal amplification, pulse-width compression, limiting, reshaping, and switching have been implemented. The optical gain is about 22.5 dB, and the compression ratio is about 25.

    The new developments in improving the single line output power of CW CO laser was deseribed. With fast-flow and improved precooling system, the specific output power of line 9-8 P(14) achieved 9.16 W/m. By using of fast-circulating and slow-exchanging techniques, the consumption rate of working gases was greatly reduced.

    A new type of waveguide array CO2 laser excited by RF discharge is reported. In the device, laser beams are guided by means of periodic gain regions distributed in lateral space and form the one-dimensional array. The experiments indicate that the 1×10 array laser is perfectly locked in phase. The symmetrical and asymmetrical distributions in far-field have been observed.
