The characteristics of measurements of beam divergence in high power CO2 lasers were studied theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analyses of three measure-ment meaasea were made, and the corresponding formulas and theoretical calculation curved were given. The theory coincides well with the experimental results.

    We investigated the photo-acoustic frequency properties of Si, Ge, GaAs and CdTe at lower frequency by the photo-acoustic cell detected mething, expression of the photo-acoustic signal for the improved high sensitivity photo-acoastic cell was obtained and a modified term of the R-G theory was given. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical calculations.

    In this papot we present a new method for measurement of refractive index of LiNbO3 optical waveguides, i. e. we can calculate the refractive index of the substrate by the angle, at which the light intensity reflected from the bottom face of the coupling prism is falling down abruptly due to the destruction of total internal reflection. This method can be used to check the usage feasibility of LiNbO3 substrate.

    This paper introduces a calculated process of the transfer of the polarization light in the magneto-optical disk system. The experimental result shows that the theoretical ealculatioa and the experimental data are coincident.

    We describe a completely passive technique based on backward Raman sato ration effect for the power of light beams. This processes is passive thus the light beam itself is required to induce limiting other tkan external mechanism.

    Nd:MgO:LiNbO3 waveguides have been fabricated by proton-exchange method. Employing the prism-coupling, we measured the effective refractive indices of the waveguides to obtain effective index profiles and diffusion coefficient. Infrared absorption spectra of the waveguides have been measured. The results indicate that the properties of the waveguides are similar to those of the proton-exchange MgO:LiNbO3 waveguides.

    Laser wavelengths were measured by means of optogalvanic spectroscopy and confirmed with atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Laser wavelengths resonated on one component of some non-fine structure high resolution lines in atomic uranium and lanthanum were accurately calibrated by combining two techniques,Experiments demonstrated that this method is superior to laser wavelength meter.

    Laser-mutagenesis of -earotene producer Dunaliella salina were investigated. Tie algal survival rate is above 90%. After mutagenesis three mutants were screened, in which the growth rate and length of alga were increased by 20% and 7.5% respectively aa compared with the original D. salina. The productivity of -carotene was 0.48mg-100 ml-1day-1, and waa increased by 19%.

    A polarization coding method representing the bipolar interconnection by using a single bipolarized mask is proposed. The neural network with a third-order interconnection is implemented with two types of incoherent opto-electronic systems respectively. The experimental results are given.

    A rainbow hologram of several sides of an object is synthesized with the conventional one-step rainbow holography by multi-exposures, therefore, the viewing angle is no longer lestricted by the relative aperture of the imaging lens. By choosing properly the recording parameters of seperate exposure a satisfactory image with large viewing angle is obtained.

    This paper presents the results of the studies of pulsed green laser output characteristics using self-frequency-doubling laser crystal NYAB grown in our institute. A few mJ laser output at 0.53 μm from a NYAB crystal with a size of 3×11 mm3 has been obtained when it was pumped by a xenon flashlamp of 3 mm×25 mm. Repetition rate experiment of NYAB laser with rates of 1-20 Hz hag been done. It can be seen from this work that NYAB crystal is a promising material for green miniature lasers.

    A circuit for power supply of copper halida lassrs was proposed, with a special voltage applied it can avoid onrrent before ion elimination in thyratron. It would be possible to prevent the thyratron from conducting continuously. The resalts of experiment agree with those in theoretical analysis.

    Several two-quantum processes, including two-photon dipole and quadrnpole excitation of Li atom, the hybrid excitation of Li2-Li system and two-quantum excitation of lithium molecule, were observed. These processes resulted in popnlation on high-lying states of lithium atom and molecule.

    We have observed the transient melting and recrystallization proopsa of crystal InSb films by Nd:YAG laser pulse irradiation with, various powers, and have analysed the temporal process and mechanics in InSb films after laser pulse irradiation.

    Based on Sellmeier's equations for LiI03 crystal, the phase-matched condition for sum-frequency generation of 1.0795 μm and 1.3414 μm dual wavelength Nd: YAP laser has been calculated. The calculated results agree well with the experimental ones. The CW and pulsed 0.5981 μm sum-frequency radiation have been achieved for the first time.

    Speetroscopic properties of Pr3+ ion and Na5Pr(W04)4 crystal are reported. The crystal belongs to the tetragonal system, with space group I41/a and cell parameters a=1.l563 nm, c=1.1468 nm. The absorption, fluorescence, excitation and infrared spectra of such crystal were measured and analyzed at room temperature. The strong fluorescence emission of high colour purity of such crystal suggests that it would be a novel laser material.

    This paper reports the optical parametric generator pumped by the second, the third and the fourth harmonies of mode-looked YAG laser. The experimental results concerning influence of the physical parameter on the threshold, the conversion efficiency and the bandwidth of optical parametric generator in BBO crystal are obtained. The conversion efficiency is over 30%.
