In this paper the demonstration of optical instability in BILED circuit and the realization of optical pulse generator based on this circuit are presented. The condition of instability is analysed theoretically. The device may be used as clock-pulse generator in optical digital computing experiment.

33-fs pulses have been generated from CPM with a mixed DODCI and malachite green (MG) absorber. The fast recovery and the higher absorption cross section of MC accelerate the shaping thus favor the mode locking.

A novel parallel multiple matrice multiplier based on outer product decomposition is proposed. The optical system includes only one light source array, five lenses and two SLM which can be replaced by two masks in this preliminary study. Besides the analog multiplications of matrices, one polarization and rotation encoding method are introduced and applied to digital optical two dimension transform.

The ray propagation and image formation through an exponential-type defo-cusing GRIN fiber is studied. The analytical solutions for ray paths in the fiber are obtained from the ray differential equation and the Gaussian parameters and the imaging formulas of the lens are also given.

The thermal properties and thermal loading limits for different types of silicate and phosphate Nd: glass slabs have been studied. The average laser power limits for the slabs have been investigated by calculation and experiment.

In this paper, we analysed theoretically the far-field characteristics of the radio-frequency excited waveguide CO2 laser array, and demonstrated the theoretical results using our RF CO2 laser array (CW 35 W). Several parameters have been measured including the far-field intensity profile and the beam divergence angle. The experimemental results ara in agreement with the theory.

Experimental results of crystal BBO optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by the third harmonic of a ns Nd:YAG laser are presented. The signal wave conversion efficiency of 26.6% at 650nm has been achieved, continuosly tunable range being from 480 nm to 720 nm.

By two-photon resonant exciting Li-atoms to 4 s state, a series of stimulated and coherent radiation lines were generated, also observed were the transition from continued energy-level to 3 s state. The populated mechanisms and radiation properties were discussed and it is considered that stimulated radiations from indirect-pumped energy-level were generated by ionization recombination processes following two-photon resonant excitation.

The electro-optic effect of BSO crystals exhibiting optical rotation is studied. By means of compensation of electro-optic effect with natural rotation and function of modulation degree, the half-wave voltage of BSO crystals which are produced in different conditions is measured.

Laser enhanced ionization (LEI) spectrometry of rare-earth element samarium (Sm) excited by tunable dye (Rhodamine 6G) laser pumped by YAG laser has been researched and 13 spectral lines are detected for the first time. The detection limits of LEI gpectrometry are better than AA (amotic absorption) in flame and ICP-AES. The lowest detection limit obtained is 2 ng/ml.

A new method for the computation of optical performance for magneto-optical (MO) multilayer structure was derived. It can be used in calculating the optical performance of MO multilayer structure containing one or more magnetic layers, such as reflectivity, Kerr rotation and elliptieity. The method has been applied to design and prepare MO recording media with bilayer structure.
