The change of the sheath in the flowing plasmas is discussed. The ion current is measured by using Langmuir electrostatic probe in various bias and D. C. current in the thick sheath, and the electron densities in various D. C. current by the relation of electron density versus ion current, are calculated and the electron density along the gas flow are presented.

It is suggested that the method of saturated resonance absorption be used to measure the metastable state of the active atoms daring the afterglow of continuously pulsed discharge realized on two identical copper bromide vapor lasers employed as the probe radiation source and resonance cell, respectively. And the time dependence of D5/2 population in the metastable state in the interpulse period was observed and discussed.

The intensity of phase conjugation signal versus time decay has been measured using optical DFWM method. It has been found that there are a faster decay signal and a lower one. It showes that the decay of space-charge field is very slow and it can persist for a time of ns scale.

Two kinds of mutants in egg color of laser-treated silkworms are analysed by esterase isoeuzymes zymogram and cross test, the results show that the new recessive mutations Zeω or Zepe gene is allelomorph with white-egg 2 (ω-2) and it is non-allelomorph with red-egg (re), which has been known to be recessive epistasis.

The effect of laser irradiation on rabbit's sperm in-vitro fertilization were studied by using SPA(Sperm Penetration Assay) method and it has been found that laser may promote the formation of male pronueleus after fertilization.

Withered grass bacilli were irradiated respectively by nine output spectral lines (454.5-514.5nm) of Ar+ laser with an irradiation dosage of 3×10-2J/cm2. The frequency dependence of Ar+ laser action on withered grass bacilli was obtained. The experimental results showed that along with the increase of Ar+ laser wavelength (from blue light region to green light region), the promoting reproductive action of Ar+ laser on the withered grass bacilli gradually decreases and finally the restraint reproductive action was produced.

A pulsed Nd:YAG slab laser with a zigzag optical path is described. The maximum average output power is 230W at 50pps repetition rate and about 10kW input power. The thermal distortion is compensated with zigzag optical path in Nd:YAG slap, therefore, the output beam divergence is improved, being about 3×4 mrad.

The laser output characteristics were calculated at various small signal gains and net absorption coefficients for both homogeneously broadened and inhomogeneously broadened high gain medium. The saturation effects and the optimum output coupling iu high gain lasers were discussed.

Two resonant reflectors (peak degenerate type) is used as the output coupling mirror of Nd: glass oscillator. For suitable reflection spectral envelope, a laser bandwidth of over 10nm is obtained. The properties of the wide-band laser is analysed experimentally.

Irradiating an InSb etalon with TEA CO2 laser pulses at 100ns (FWHM), optical bistability and instability were obtained respectively by two-photon excitation and self-defocusing under Gaussion beam at room temperatures. Based on the F-P nonlinear etalon theory, computer simulation of optical bistability was made for the above process. It was found that the self-defoeusing thus formed would lead to obvions instability of the output when a Ganssion beam was used at similar condition.

Excitonic absorption and the excitonic band broadening are observed in ZnSe /ZnS multiple quantum wells at 77K, and the increasing absorption and dispersive optical bistabilities are obtained at different excitation wavelengths. The nonlinear mechanism is the excitonic band broadening.

Temperure dependence of Eaman spectra of nematic liquid crystals MBBA and EBBA made in China is reported. The spectral behaviours of these two types of liquid crystals are quite similar. Separation theory of vibrational and rotational correlation function which could only be applied in isotropic liquid phase is extended to anisotropieally oriented nematic liquid crystals. The experimental results of applying the extended theory to study vibrational and rotational relaxation of molecules in nematic and liquid phases of MBBA show the feasibility of the extended theory.

Amorphous Sb2Se3 thin films have been prepared by thermal evaporation method. Thermal annealing effects on the optical property and microstructure of Sb2Se3 thin film have been studied systematically.

The short cavity dye laser with a one-stage amplifier is studied. It shows that the amplification factor is about 20 and a considerable reduction in intensity fluctuations can be achieved when a strong, nonsaturable absorber is used in the amplifier.

26mW stable single frequency output was obtained from an extracavity He -Ne laser of 1m long high gas pressure longitudinally discharge tube with additional unhomogenieous magnetic field. Conversion coeffieient from multi-frequency into single frequency output is greater than 1. This type of laser has a p.d value of approximate constant, being 10-13.
