In the paper, we compute by means of beam propagation method (BPM) the propagations of integrated optical zero-gap couplers, the crosstalk resulting from misregistration of the electrodes and the radiation losses incurred integrated optical graded index waveguides.

    A novel acousto-electric sensor is studied, which posesses higher sensitivity and greater detective signal-noise ratio than traditional microphones. The experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical analysis.

    An interferometric waveguide modulator independent of polarization is reported, which has two sets of electrodes with low and approximately equal drive voltages. The driving voltages of TE-and TM-mode at 0.633μm are about 15and 11V respectively, with an extinction ratio of above 95% and estimated bandwidth of 1.21 GHz.

    In this article, an improved method of image edge enhancement is presented. Compared with that method described in literature[6], this one does not need two-exposure, turning grating and replacing spatial filter between two-exposures. Thus, operational process is simplified greatly.

    This paper reports that the high quality coated layers of self-melted Ni-base and Co-base alloys can be obtained by laser-deposition, and the wear and corrosion resistance of the blade can be improved so that their lifetime can be increased over a facter of 10.

    Presented here is a model of kinetics of afterglow lasing on the basis of investigating the pnlsed hollow-cathode discharge He-Kr+ laser. The model explains well all kinds of plasma parameters measured experimentally.

    Investigation results are reported of Nd:YAG single crystal optical fibre laser pumped by Ar+ laser, and CW laser light was obtained at 1.064μm fundamental mode with a slope efficiency of greater than 20%, and an maximum output of up to 35 mW. The experimental results are essentially in agreement with the theoretical calculation.

    DFWM of picosecond pulses in some saturable absorbers used for modelocking Nd-doped laser material is reported. The performances of Kodok 9740, Kodak 9860, pentame-thylidyne dye and two new dyes HIE 1301, and HIR 1302 are compared by the intensity and time-resolution properties of signal waves, and the output characteristics of the laser by using these dyes in an active-passive mode-looked Nd3+:YAG laser are reported. The relaxation time of HIR 1301 and HIR 1302 are presented for the first time.

    When a weak 530nm ultrashort pulse propagates through K9 glass, it produces a spectral superbroadening. If an intense 1060nm laser pulse irradiates at the medium at the same time, an induced spectral superbroadening is obtained. 4-15 times enhancement of the spectral intensity in diffderent wave length range and obvious spectral broadening are observed.

    This paper discusses the relation between the dissipation and the cooperative effect in optical bistable systems (OBS) far from thermodynamie equilibrium, which is based on the formulation of the dissipative power for mixed OBS. It has been shown that the cooperative behavior in lower branch and the one-atom behavior in higher branch are of universal significance to the optical bistability.

    Single crystal α-Al2O3 is colored by using neutron irradiation method. The correspondent color centers are investigated by observing the optical absorption. Effects of neutron irradiation doses and thermal annealing processes on color centers in single crystal α-Al2O3 are studied and luminescence spectrum of correlative centers are measured.

    Based on Judd-Ofeld theory, the spectral intensity parameters are calculated, including oscillator strength parameters τλ spontaneous radiative transition probabilitiy, radiative lifetime, fluorescent branching ratioβ 0 and radiative quantum efficiency η etc. The sum of τλ parameters obtained from the linear relation of P=a∑λE+b are in agreement with those obtained by J-O method.
