Mathemetical models for progressive laser transformation hardening with a toric mirror are presented. The models valid for cylindrical geometry can be used for calculating temperature, phase transformation and stress during the hardening process. Moreover, computer calculating results for some specimens are given and analysed.

The outpu t parameters such as beam divergence angle in far-field output power of high power solid state lasers are variable due to thermal effect of optical pumping. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of various stable and critical resonator configurations, for example, moving rule of working point in the g*-parameter diagram, critical refractive power, critical g*-parameter, beam radius and external far-field divergence angle are investigated in detail using equivalent g*-parameter resonator. The experimental verification and their application are discussed.

Four kinds of laser dyes were pumped by a repetitive pulsed mode-locked YAG laser. A dye laser has been obtained with the parameters as follows: pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz, peak power of the order of MW, average output power of the order of mW, spectral line-wodth of 0.05nm, tunable wavelength ranging from 550.0-689.0nm, pulse duration of 30 ps. The output characteristics of the two matching dye are compared experimentally.

The frequency-doubled and Q-switched quasi-cw YAG laser using KTP SHG crystals is a new pumping source for dye lasers. The performances of this’system sueh as efficiencies, optimum structure and output band widthwith different dyes and frequency selection elements are discussed. Considering the loss characters of the frequency selection elements and by obtaining the numerical solution of multi-wavelangth rate equation, the effects of beam round trips through frequency elements in dye laser cavity on the output linewidth are discussed. The calculation are in agreement with the experimental results.

Six FIR laser lines produced by a pulsed TEA CO2 laser pumped NH3 system have been studied experimetally. The dependence of FIE laser output energy upon the pumping energy, the pressure of molecular gases and the absorbability to pumping energy have also been measured. It has been shown that, firstly, the optimum pressure corresponding to a maximum FIB laser output increases proportionally to the increment of pumping frequency offset, and secondly, the maximum FIB laser output is observed under the pressure at which the absorbability to pumping energy is just about 90% instead of 100%.

With unstable resonator as oscillator, we have made an experimental comparison-of the laser beam power and divergency between the oscillator, travelling wave amplifier and injection oscillator-amplifier of copper vapor lasers. It shows that the latter has advantages in efficiency and optical quality. The efficiency is 30% higher than that of the oscillator, the divergency is improved by a factor of 4.5, which is essentially in agreement with geometric optics prediction.

This paper presents the study of SEES of pyridine on silver island film prepared by chemical deposition on island photoresist. We observed the influence of the separation of silver island on enhancement, and analysed the SEES spectra obtained at different times of laser illumination, including the changes of relative intensity and Eaman shifts. The results show that the island structure of silver film is in favor of enhancement, and that the adsorbed form of pyridine on silver film is transformed during the first twenty minutes laser illumination.

Temperature profile in C2H2/air flame was measured by means of relative fluorescence intensities of OH radical at A22+ - X3II(1, 0) transition excited by Nd: YAG laser pumped dye laser. The results essentially agree with those obtained by CABS. We also observed non-Boltzmann distribution at local region of the flame.

On the basis of laser field and band interactions between liquid molecules, ft layered vaporatizion model of liquid surface under the action of the laser light is suggested, and a theoretical formula for layered vaporation is derived. Irradiating the surfaces of water, acetone and alcohol with COs laser light at 10. 6um, the time for surface vaporization of layers are measured to be 1.28 x 10-3s,9.57 x 10-4 s and 1.05 X 10-3 s respetively. Experimental results confirm the theory.

This paper reports that by using laser optical fiber to cause explosion of PbN2 drug tube, the outside body stone can be broken and satisfactory results have been obtained. For the same quantity of drug used, the results of breaking stone correlated with stone species, densities and volumes. The results of burned hole with optical fiber are better than those with surface contact. The reappearance rate of our tests was 81.8%.

A method of measuring small signal gain of CO2 lasers is studied by using a CdTe crystal as a loss tunable cell in the cavity. By using the equivalent cavity mirrors and considering the thermo-lensing effect, the small signal gains of lasers in different structures were measured.
