Both calculation and experiment shows that the dissociation attachment of electrons and HOl is not the major chartnel for electron loss in XeOl lasers with typical gas mixture of HOl/Xe/Ne. The slow decay of electron density may be involved with the three-body combination of electrons.

Using a simplified analytical model of CO laser, we have analysed the influence of a single branch vibratational transition and resonant self-absorption on the vibrational distribution function and studied the characteristics of gain saturation and the pump effect of the resonant self-absorption.

In the paper a new sine-squared potential is introduced to describe the quasi-channeling radiation for charged particles by rotational period solution of the particle motion equation, the difference between quasi-channeling and channeling radiation is discussed, and the contribution of the quasi-channeling radiation to total radiation intensity is calculated.

A waveguide tube structure is suggested to get linear polarized output in small CO2 waveguide lasers. Using this structure, linear polarized TEMoo mode laser output of over 5W and the degree of polarization of over 95% are obtained with an active medium length of 250mm and a total cavity length of 310 mm.

The failure mechanism of He-Ne lasers is compared with the physical model of Weibull function. It follows that the lifetime of He-Ne lasers ought to obey Weibull function. An equation for lifetime shortening is derived, which is used to determine readily the lifetime characteristics of He-Ne lasers.

The experiment of a laser beam amplified by the other after both beams crossing a Ce-doped (0.1Wt%) strontium barium niobate (BaxSr1-xNbaO6 or SEN, x=0.48) crystal is reported and preliminary theoretical analysis is given. The density of mobile charges in Ce-SBN is calculated to be 4.5xl016pm-8 (at ambient temperature). The sign of mobile charges determined from the energy flow direction is positive. Couplings at different polarizations, different wavelengths and different doping amounts are compared.

Amorphous Si: H fillm has been obtained with a pulsed CO2 laser by laser plasma induced chemical vapour deposition (LPCVD). The experiment is described and the dependance of film growth rate on the related experimental parameters and the suitable depositing condition are given. Some properties of the film were measured and analyzed.

KPrP4P12 crystals were grown by evaporation solution method. The conditions of growth were studied and some better crystals were obtained. Chemical analysis and X-ray diffraction pattern proved the grown crystals to be KPrP4O12.The crystal structure of KPrP4O12 can be divided into two types. Their infrared, absorption and fluorescence spectra have been determined. It may prove to be a novel laser crystal.

Rail gap is one of the most important technology to obtain large volume uniform discharge at high gas pressure. In this paper, a pulsed laser discharge circuit w’th a rail gap was analyzed theoretically. According to the self breakdown, voltages of the rail gap at different gas pressures, a computer code was used to calculate the discharge characteristics and laser output for different discharge voltages and repetition rates. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental data.

A new stock-removing process using a laser beam is proposed. In this process, a laser beam focused into a light strip is used to melt the localized area at the interface bet-ween the material to be removed and the workpiece. The scraps due to melting is removed by a striping tool. The analysis and preliminary experiments proved the feasibility of the method. It has small cutting force and is free from wear and economic in laser energy usage.

A quantum mechanics model used to describe a n-photon transition within an atomic system is presented, and a semiclassical approach is used to obtain Maxwell-Bloeh equations so as to describe the multi-photon optical bistability system. From these equations the conclusions can be easily derived as follows: under stationary conditions, the flourescence intensity of multi-photon optical bistability is propotional to N orN - 1/(2n-1)in the cooperative region and is propotional to N in the single atom region.
