Asymmetric output is obtained when a feedback is introduced in a ring laser to force part of the traveling wave into the other. The coupling between both waves plays an important role in such a device, The output rotio of the traveling wave- is obtained experimentally to be 40 for a Ou vapor laser and 60 for a dye laser pumped by argon laser.

Optical unstability can be observed by means of surface plasma wave (SPW) technique. Theoretical calculation for prediction of optical unstability by SPW has been obtained and some experiments were carried out, optical unstability of self-pulsing, bifurcation and chaos were observed.

Frequency doubling and mixing of active and passive mode-locked YAG laser light have been accomplished using two types of KDP crystals. When the incident laser power density on the crystal is 1.27GW/cm2, stable UV laser output at 364.7am has been, obtained with pulse width of 32 ps, peak power 30 MW, average power 60 mW and pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz.

The adsorption of pyridine and SON- at silver electrode is investigated using the experimental results of SEBS spectra of pyridine, SON- and their coexistent system. It is-shown that pyridine and SON- absorb at silver electrode surface through chemisorption.

Basic properties of magneto-optical thin films are discussed. The method of thin film optics is used to study the interference enhancement of the magneto-optical effect. As an example, the design considerations of megnetic film TbFe are given.

The distribution function of the light beam which has passed the medium is solved by starting from the radiative transfer equation of light in the scattering medium and introducing visually the gain function. The results are in good agreement with those of the experiments, and the forward scattering coefficient and extinction coefficient has been obtained.

A polarization method for measuring- the stability of optical reference cavities is reported. Measurement with I2 stabilized He-Ne laser (the stability is less than 2 X 10-10) and sampling time of 0.01s confirmed that the stability of a tested cavity was about 1.3x10-9.

By means of single periodic layered phase grating and based on the revolving field principle for velocity direction discrimination, a laser Doppler vibrometer system has been developed, which provides a potential method of velocity measurement. The theoretical analysis and experimental results of the system are presented.
