Inserting an array composed of nearly one hundred similar lenses into a common focal system, the uniformity of the illumination of a target can evidently be improved without being affected by the near field distribution of laser beams. We report here the analyses of geometrical and physical optics of the lens array and compare them with the experimental results.

In this article, the space coherence of XeCl laser is measured with various cavity Q using Young’s experiment. It shows than the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) is the important factor which affects the space coherence of XeCl lasers. Such influence can be suppressed effectively by properly choosing the reflectivity R of the cavity output mirror.

Optical pumping of solid-state lasers will induce axial thermal elongation and radial gradient of refractive index in the laser rod, which may be summarized as an effect of thermal thick lens. The insensitive condition of the parallel-plane resonator to thermal thick lens is directly derived by the derivative of beam spot size to the focal length of thermal lens at the output mirror of the resonator and the limitation for application is discussed.

Tuning characteristics of the planar waveguide dye laser driven by xenon flashlamps are described. With a planar structure, a narrow bandwidth of down to 8 GHz (FWHM), tuning range of 46.0 nm and tuning .effiicency of 85% have been obtained using Rhodamine 6G. The beam divergency of this laser has been measured.

A dye laser with: a double-prism pf one dimensional beam-expander, which is longitudinally pumped by a frequency doubled Nd: YAG laser, is reported. The total efficiency of the dye laser after two stages of amplification is 31% for Rh6G. Then the energy of pumping beam was 40 mJ, tunable dye laser output of 12.2mJ (2MW) Tith a line width of 0.12A was obtained. The quality of laser output beam was good. The repetition was 10Hz when a circulating system was used.

The effect of pulsed nanosecond radiation from a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser on several porphyrins in three solvents (chloroform, benzene, methanol) has been studied. For all three porphyrins (PPM, HPM, TPP), only irradiation in CHCl3 solutions can bring about the appearance of new spectra and the disappearance of original ones, but never in benzene or methanol solutions. The resulting products have been identified as the corresponding protonated porphyrins. We assume that the dielectric breakdown of chloroform most probably accounts for the reaction pathway.

The paper reports the study of kinetic process for F-centcr formation in LiF crystals irradiated with y-ray by ESE. The experiment shows that VK-center is formed at first and then F-center when VK-center is disintegrated. The cause for center formation and its transformation are discussed and explained.

A method using the frequency divtion multiplexing technique of the laser speckle’s spatial frequency to record multiple displacement information on a single specklegram is presented. The full-field fringes corresponding to each deformation of an object can be obtained respectively by optical filtering. An example is given and the operating procedure is described briefly.

In this paper the signals and noises obtained in90° Thomson scattering experiment on Tokamak are analysed. A ruby laser was used in the experiment as light source, and high scattering signal level and high signal-to-noise ratio were obtained with the apparatus. The key points in the optical design of 90°?Thomson scattering apparatus for CT-6B Tokamak are explained.

The method of automatic thermal balance and compensation of laser calorimeters is presented and the correspoding circuit has been fabricated. Using this technique, "zero drift" is reduced by two orders of magnitude and detectivity of energy increased by 20 times.

In order to measure the pulse width of a mode-locked Ar+ laser in the absence of high speed photodiode and wide band oscilloscope, a zxtw 45°/90° cut KDP plate was designed to be cooled down to-(13.5± 0.1)℃ in a refrigarator, phase matching for 5145 A was achieved and the pulse width can be exactly determined by SHG- method.

The pyrolysis of coal of different ranks has been examined by chromatographic technique. The results obtained reveal that the ratio of C2H4/CH4 in gaseous products is linearly related to the content of volatile fraction of coal. This fact suggests that this technique offers a simpler approach instead of the routine methods for tho evaluation of the characteristic parameter-content of volatile matter in coal of different origins.
