We report a new kind of two-wavelength dye laser, which needs no additional intracavity element. The tuning of the two wavelengths is entirely independent and the frequency-difference is not limited by the gain spectral width of a single dye.

Simultaneous tunable two-wavelength operation of the tunable dye laser pumped by SHG of a Nd:YAG pulsed repetitive Q-switched laser is described. R6G, R6G+R640 and R6G+LD473 mixture in methanol solution were studied. The proper choice of the beam splitter and the Brewster prism pre-expander grazing-incident grating cavity provided a wide tunable spectral range, low background ASE; polarized peak output power of the laser is about 40 kW and a spectral bandwidth is 0.22cm-1.

By using the technique of oscillation-amplification the small signal gain characteristics of an X-ray preionized discharge XeCl laser at a gas pressure of up to 10 atm have been investigated. The experimental result shows that for a Xe:HCl=10:l mixture with different amounts of neon dilution; the total gas pressure Pmax corresponding to the peak small signal gain appears to increase monotonically with the increasing amount of neon dilution, but the absolute partial pressure of HC1 corresponding to Pmax at various mole ratio, however, seems to remain relatively constant.

The investigation of the four-wave mixing process in first Stokes scattering of SRS in H2 is presented in this paper. In certain conditions, the parametric four wave mixing process in first order Stokes can occur and it plays an important role in energy transfer. The dependence of the physical process in first order Stokes on pumping intensity and hydrogen pressure is studied experimentally.

In a double resonant oscillator, oscillation of more than one cluster recorded simultaneously on the signal and idler waves is reported for the first time. Jumping change of the output frequency has been observed and the "cluster effect" is confirmed experimentally.

An experimental set-up using F-P etalon for measuring the output spectrum of the branch selected CO laser at room temperature is given. The influences of the discharge current, pressure and grating tuning angle on the output spectrum are studied.

Investigation on the growth and laser properties of gadolinium gallium garnet crystal doped with Nd and Cr is reported. As the segregation coefficient of Nd in GGG is less than 1 and that of Cr is greater than 1, a modified Czochralski method for growth is adopted in order to keep the dopants being uniform in the grown crystal.

An interferometric modulator with Ti-diffused LiNb03 waveguide has been fabricated. Modulation experiments were made at the optical wavelength of 0.6328μm using square wave signal of 1kHz, pulse signal of 50kHz and sine wave signal of 100 kHz-30 MHz.Kxperimental results are as follows: maximum modulation degree-87%, π phase voltage-Vπ = 45 V (peak to peak), eapacitaneo-8 pf and 3 db bandwidth at 800 MHz.

Using a Q-switched ruby laser pulse to cause a transient heating of silver film on the surface of a piezoelectric ceramic sheet, the investigation on the physical mechanism of laser generated shock wave in absorbing materials has been performed. It is shown from the analysis of the obtained electrical signals that there are two types of physical mechanisms for laser generated shock waves: one is the thermal shock, which is due to the thermal expansion and the giant stress gradient following the rapid absorption of laser pulse energy at the surface layer of an elastic specimen; the other is the mechanical shock, which is due to the rapidly vaporizing and expanding of the high temperature vapor which exerts a pressure on the target surface.

This paper relates a new method for laser measurement of straightness of large sized objects. The advantages of the method are that its accuracy is not dependent on the straightness of the laser beam and stability of the laser itself. Moreover, straightness of tens of microms can be measured and an accuracy of a fraction of a micron is readily given by coarse grating.
