A flashlamp pumped dye laser with an oscillator and an amplifier is described. In this system, a nondispersive Brewster prism expander, a pressure tuning device and travelling wave amplifier are used. The overvoltage synchronously triggered spark gap is used in the travelling wave amplifier. By using Rh6G, we obtained: peak power over 30 kW, linewidths 0.01-0.05A and tuning accuracy better than 0.004 A.

An experimental set-up for CARS investigation of gas systems has been established and CABS spectrum of nitrobenzene vapor has been measured. In comparison with the CARS spectrum of liquid phase nitrobenzene, a frequency shift of the NO2-symmetric stretching mode(v =1345cm-1) was observed for the vapor phase. Besides, the CARS spectrum line of nitrobenzene vapor was found to be asymmetric and much broader than that of liquid nitrobenzene.

The temperature effects on the statical and dynamic characteristics of electrical and optical parameters and operating lifetime have been investigated and analyzed for the GaAlAs DH lasers. For lasers of lower changing rate of threshold current, at the extrapolated room temperature, the CW operating lifetime is over 8 × 104 hrs, self-pulsating and kinking of lasing output have also been studied.

A multi-wavelength He-Ne laser tuned by a dispersion prism has been developed. Laser lines of eight different wavelengths in visible region have been obtained with 30 mW output power at 6328 A and 10 mW at 6118 A. Some problems on the design of this laser are discussed and its performances are described.

A new type of gas discharge, called electric charge neutralizing discharge, is discussed in this paper. Its characteristics are that different charges seperately accumulate on different faces in the device. This discharge in the device doesn’t constitute a part of conductive electric current for outside circuit and it is produced by electrons, atoms and molecules in the discharge space. This eliminates metallic electrodes and preionization.

Vibronic laser output in Alexandrite crystals has been obtained. Experimental results prove that the laser performances has been improved as the temperature elevated, and the emission was the strongly polarized one as E // b. Tunable emission was observed at room temperature.

Atmospheric extinction of the He-Ne laser has been measured in Hefei district. The results show that the extinction coefficients are strongly correlated with the concentration of aerosol particles with the radius of over 0.25 ×m. The value of linear correlation coefficient has been found to be 0.91. Howerer, as opposed to the results of ref. [1], the atmospheric extinction coefficient data seem to indicate that no obvious correlation exists with relative humidity of up to 75%. Therefore, we think that the aerosol present in Hefei during the measuring period is strongly inhygroscopio.

The power attenuation coefficient and the change of the coherence of the laser through the sediment-laden water are obtained in the experiment. In dynamic state the velocity of the sediment-laden flow and Doppler signal characteristics are measured. The optimum concentration and the limitation concentration of the sediment-laden flow for laser Doppler anemometer are obtained. The analysis of dynamic experiment using a simple model is connected and the results of the analysis agree with those of the experiment.

In this paper the principle of measuring laser pulse energy with a pyroelectrio detector is described, and a pyroelectric laser microenergy gauge has been developed. Using the techniques of amplification, peak-selection, digital display, synchronously triggered and gate-controlled circuit, elelctromagnetic and other interferences are suppressed. These make it more sensitive, and can measure laser pulse energy down to 70 nj.
