The invention of a novel holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal volume grating is reported. The H-PDLC volume grating has very high diffraction efficiency, and it has the electrically switchable character with short response time. H-PDLC grating is a relatively new class of optical devices that hold high promise for many applications ranging from switchable windows, optical communication device to projection displays.
