The condition of light propagating in the horizontal atmosphere has been considered. It is shown that the compensation effect of an adaptive optics system is strongly related with transverse wind along the light propagation path. When intensity of the atmospheric turbulence becomes stronger, or the cut off spatial frequency of the adaptive optics system becomes higher, the influence of transverse wind becomes stronger. It is also shown that the influence of transverse wind on the compensation effect for the atmospheric turbulence induced wavefront perturbaton on spherical wave is stronger than that on plane wave.
