Carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced aluminum matrix (CNT/Al) composites have the advantages of light weight, high strength, high modulus, and easy processing, and have a great application prospect in the aerospace field as lightweight materials. In order to obtain a lightweight structural material with both good mechanical properties and perfect damping capacity, the 1.5%(mass fraction) CNT/2A12 composite is prepared by flake powder metallurgy and elemental alloying. When the composite is aged at 130 ℃ for 6~14 h,it exhibits high tensile strength and good ductility. The tensile strength is up to 595 MPa at 12 h of aging, and the elongation is up to 14.0% at 8 h of aging. The damping capacity of the composite is about 0.005 at 0~180 ℃,but significantly increases at 180~300 ℃,reaching 0.05 at 300 ℃.The damping capacity is hardly affected by the aging time. The storage modulus of the composite decreases when the test temperature increases, and increases at 180~300 ℃ when the vibration frequency increases.Taking the overall properties into consideration,at 130 ℃ and 8 h,the 1.5%(mass fraction) CNT/2A12 composite has the optimal mechanical properties and damping capacity.
