A general diffraction formula for circular apertures is derived. This formula is not limited by the aperture radius and the distance from the screen and can be used as a theory of near field optics. It satisfies the Maxwell′s scalar equations and Kirchhoff′s boundary conditions and includes propagating waves and evanescent waves. The numerical calculation shows that the results are better than those which are based on the Bethe model.
