Experimental study of dimmable VLC system based on shaping polarization code

    The traditional visible light communication(VLC) dimming scheme uses redundant compensation symbols to achieve dimming control, resulting in low transmission efficiency. In order to improve the transmission efficiency of VLC system, a dimming control scheme based on shaping polarization code is proposed. The probability of "1" in code word is changed by preencoder, so the dimming control function can be realized without adding redundant compensation symbol. The experimental results show that the shaping polarization code scheme has higher transmission efficiency and better error correction performance compared with the compensating polarization code scheme. In the two typical dimming scenarios of 25% and 12.5%, the encoding gain can reach at least 1.9 dB and 3.3 dB respectively.
