A Vector Modal Theory for Perfectly-Conducting Rectangular-Aperture Grating
The vector wave functions satisfying vector homogeneous Helmholtz equation are introduced as the basic vectors, and the fields both outside and inside the apertures of the grating are expanded by vector plane wave functions and vector modes respectively. Applying the field coupling conditions, the diffraction equations for the amplitudes are derived. The method can be used to study the diffraction of optical plane waves with arbitrary incident direction and polarization.
