A fast analysis method for the Narcissus effect based on pseudo-paraxial raytracing is proposed. The definitions and tracing formulae for the pseudo-paraxial rays are given. The Narcissus induced temperature reduction for the axial point and the Narcissus induced temperature variation over the field can then be calculated. Different methods of reducing the Narcissus effect during automatic design of the optical system are discussed. All the analyses and controls are implemented in the GOSA (General Optical System Analysis and optimization) program developed at Beijing Institute of Technology.
