A New OCDMA Passive Access Network and Its Performance Analysis
A new architecture of access network based on slotted optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) packet passive optical network (PON) is proposed. The random access protocol based on this network is presented, and the bit-stuffed unipolar m-sequence is used as the address code. Next, mathematic model of the network throughput of the passive optical network under the given protocol is derived. The throughput performance is numerically investigated. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed slotted OCDMA packet network obtains a better network performance. The network throughput will be deteriorated by reducing the received optical power or increasing the multiple access interference. But the throughput decreases as the received power decreases when the offered traffic becomes larger. By reducing the packet length, the network throughput will be improved.
