A three-dimensional profilometry based on a dual-acousto-optic fringe projection is presented. The fringe projector is able to generate a time-series, frequency-varying fringe patterns by using the acousto-optic interaction effect. The system is qualified for video-rate 3-D profilometry of arbitrary shape objects. The AO technique for producing interference patterns provides significant benefits, such as high precision, full field and dynamic programmable ability. Experimental results of a step-like surface are also carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
