Laser-Raman measurement of vibrational relaxation time of N2 at room temperature

    N2 molecules at high pressure were pumped into v = 1 level with a high power CW DF laser as a result of pressure-induced absorption. Using an Ar+ ion laser as the source we measured the anti-Stokes Raman scattering and obtained the vibrational relaxation time of N2 at room temperature to be 0.46±0.30 sec?atm.
