Effects of Spectral Width of Frequency Selecting Element on Tunable External Cavity Semiconductor Lasers
It is known that the responding function of the tuning element in a tunable external cavity semiconductor laser (ECLD) has a finite spectral width. Effects of this finite width on the characteristics of the ECLD have been studied. Expressions of the upper bound of the spectral width and the frequency difference between the peak of the grating reflection and the laser radiation have been derived for the case where a continuous tuning of the ECLD is required.
