A 13 cm long linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating is achieved by precisely translating the photosensitive fiber and linearly chirped phase mask assembly as the ultraviolet writing beam is scanning. Reflectivity of up to 90%, bandwidth over 0.8 nm and dispersion as high as -1700 ps/nm have been measured. It is sufficient to compensate the dispersion over 100 km standard single mode fiber of 10 Gb/s optical pulses at 1547.74 nm.
