Steady-state luminescence spectra and transient luminescence dynamics process of 4 kinds of ruthenium complexes [Ru(bpy)3]2+,[Ru(bpy)2HPIP]2+,[Ru(dmb)2PIP]2+,[Ru(dmb)2DMNP]2+ are studied by using time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy. The results indicate that the luminescence intensity is enhanced, the shapes of the spectra are largely changed and the transient luminescence lifetime is prolonged when ruthenium complexes are in low temperature conditions comparing with room temperature. The solvent medium transforms from a fluid to a rigid glass when at 77 K.The electron transfer process in a rigid medium is quite different from that in a fluid media, which results in large changes in the shape of the spectra. The probability of intersystem crossing and amplitude of molecular vibration and thermal motion are all reduced at 77 K comparing with room temperature. Therefore, the phosphorescent quantum yield is highly raised, which leads to enhancement of luminescence and prolongation of lifetimes.
