A novel tunable wavelength filter is designed and demonstrated, which is realized by bending a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) mounted on a two-fixed-end elastic compressive bar. According to material mechanics, equations relating the wavelength tuning of FBG to the bending strain are derived. The resonant peaks during tuning process are simulated and analyzed in detail. FBG wavelength tuning experiments are carried out by using self-designed tuning apparatus. The wavelength change has a strictly exponential relation with the displacement of the translation stage. The experimental tuning range is greater than 35 nm and the 3 dB bandwidth change is less than 0.09 nm. The tuning has a repeatability with hysteresis of 0.08%.
