Aliasing will occur when sampling a scene containing spatial frequencies exceeding half of the sampling frequency. An optical method, referred as optical prefiltering, for reducing aliased signal energy in discrete imaging systems is proposed and discussed. Pupil function for producing the expected prefiltering effect is deduced. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of optical prefiltering method.
