The separation of color invariance and highlight in color image (Ⅱ)
mages of objects are influenced by the position and chromatioity of the illuminant. Ideal segmentation result can not be gained by usual segmentation algorielun due to the appearenoe of highlight and shadow. The Dichromatic Reflection Model is used in this paper to separate a color image into two intrinsic images-matte image and highlight image. The matte image is the original image with the highlights removed, reflecting the invariance of the object and being not affected by the environmental factors (such as the position and chromaticity of the illuminant). While the highlight image is an image of just highlighs, reflecting the enviromental factors only, and providing information for shape from glass. (Fig.1 and Fig.2: see color inset No.10~15).
