Strain measurement based on optoelectronic oscillator and high-birefringence fiber
In order to improve the performance of strain measurement in complex electromagnetic environment, a novel strain measurement method is proposed based on optoelectronic oscillator(OEO) and high-birefringence(Hi-Bi) fiber. The strain will cause the change of phase difference between the two orthogonal polarized lights transmitted on the fast and slow axes of the Hi-Bi fiber, By properly controlling the polarization state of the light wave sent into the Mach-Zehnder modulator, the phase change is mapped to the frequency change of the OEO oscillating microwave signal. Therefore, the demodulation of strain is achieved by monitoring the frequency change. Theoretical analysis and experiment results show that the frequency of the oscillating microwave signal generated by OEO has a linear relationship with strain, and sensitivity of the proposed measurement method is -369.3 Hz/με.
